The Internet Protocol version 4 was designed for a captive relatively small network. Even the inventors of the Internet Protocol did not envisage the enormity and complexity of the networks that comprise of the Internet today.  This exponential expansion of the Internet and the vast and complex nature of the contents and applications being served on it has made the existing IPv4 exhaust and obsolete resulting in the development of Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). 

To promote, raise awareness, provide hand-holding, capacity building & outreach as well as speed up the research and development activities related to IPv6 by effectively improving the security, stability and sustainability of the Internet in India, the Bharat IPv6 Forum was created which is the chapter of the IPv6 Forum worldwide.
